Spent some time at @counihangallery Gallery for After the Epilogue artist talk with Judy Kong and a live performance by Spillway.
The performance was incredible. Three musicians responding to the installation through improvisation, acoustic guitar, violin, and piano accordion. A black metal inspired guitarist and a classically trained violinist bounced off each other and the space in a remarkably beautiful conversation.
I’m really enjoying hearing artists speak about what sits behind their work, their process, their thinking, what they’re trying to work through. That’s where magic happens.
It keeps reminding me that the final piece isn’t really the point. It’s more like a byproduct of everything that happens leading up to it. You can’t get that from reading the wall.

The world is a little loud right now.
So I’m taking a cue from the moon.
The dark moon is a time to pause, to soften, to come back to yourself. So, with the weekend approaching, it feels like the perfect moment.
Pencil in some YOU time. Get cosy, make a cuppa.
The next Art Witch Journal arrives tomorrow.

Today marks Eid al-Fitr and the end of Ramadan.
At the beginning I acknowledged that many were approaching the holy month with a heavy heart. For many, this is a day reserved for celebration is arriving alongside grief, fear, and a deep uncertainty for the future.
I hope that here in Australia, ore wherever you find yourself this year, you are still able to find moments of safety, connection, and belonging. That even in the midst of everything, there are spaces, however small, where you can gather, reflect, and be held in community.
Joy and sorrow. Celebration and grief. Can all exist together.
Thinking of those for whom this Eid feels different.
Eid Mubarak.

For 14 years Morgana was a quiet presence in my studio and my life.
She curled up beside me while I worked, kept watch through long days of rest when my health faltered, and walked beside me through more chapters of life than I can count.
Yesterday I said goodbye to my familiar.
The studio feels different today. My life will too.
I’ve written about her, how she came into my life and the years we shared together.
If you would like to read her story, you can find it on Substack.
