Embrace Innovation and Creativity with the Aquarius New Moon.
I’ve been diving into Procreate on my iPad, discovering how my collage and mixed media concepts translate digitally. It’s exciting to see the possibilities this opens up, and I’m looking forward to experimenting further.
I’ve also been researching ways to incorporate more texture into my piece for the upcoming Creativa exhibition with Collective 24….
Life Update: Navigating Challenges and Finding Inspiration
Life Update: Navigating Challenges and Finding Inspiration
It’s been a challenging cycle. My second nerve block this week meant plenty of doctor’s appointments and hospital visits, keeping me away from the studio. On top of that, Melbourne’s Summer has made things difficult. My little companion Morgana has been on a holiday at my sister’s, where she can enjoy some air conditioning. As much as I’m missing her, it’s just been too hot here for her.
I was also honoured to take part in the 101 Women Project, a powerful tribute to the 101 women killed last year by gendered violence. Dressed in black and wearing red veils, we stood in silence for 30 minutes on the steps of the State Library in Melbourne. From there, we processed single file down Swanston Street to Lonsdale Street before entering the Queen Victoria Women’s Centre. It was a deeply moving and visually striking display of art and activism.
Thank you to Fleassy Malay for organising this event and ensuring it was accessible for all participants. I also had the privilege of helping with the media release for the event, an honour to support such an important cause. Family and gendered violence, as well as the ongoing femicide epidemic in this country, need as much awareness as we can generate in the hope that governments will take decisive action.
On another note, I’ve been struggling with my visioning for 2025. My vision wall is still a work in progress, as the uncertainty of my health makes future planning a bit overwhelming. I’m trying to approach it with patience and flexibility, leaving space for hope and creativity to flourish.
Studio Update: Exploring Digital Art and Upcoming Exhibitions
With all the appointments this cycle, I haven’t had much time to pull out the paints. Instead, I’ve been diving into Procreate on my iPad, discovering how my collage and mixed media concepts translate digitally. It’s exciting to see the possibilities this opens up, and I’m looking forward to experimenting further.
I’ve also been researching ways to incorporate more texture into my piece for the upcoming Creativa exhibition with Collective 24. I’ve been working on the colour palettes for the marketing and social media promotions. We are in the process of setting the social media accounts, I hope to share them with you in my next blog post. It’s exciting to use some of the skills I’ve been learning here and on my own social media platforms. Speaking of which, I have just opened a Bluesky Social account! If you’re there, I’d love if you follow me, find me under Ange’s Studio, and I’ll follow you back.
On top of that, grant writing has been a major focus, as I delve deeper into my concepts around the seen and unseen realms of being a woman and living with a disability. There’s also a watercolour workshop from ArtisMagic.online waiting for me, I’m hoping to jump back into that soon.
#CyclesOfCraft Update: Lammas Celebrations and Creative Prompts
The wheel of the year is turning again as we approach the seasonal celebration of Lammas on February 4th. Keep an eye out for my special edition blog post next week, where I’ll share info, tips, and creative ways to honour this time of year.
In the meantime, let’s revisit this cycle’s art prompt:
Earlier this cycle, I shared an art prompt inspired by the Aquarius New Moon: "What bold visions or unconventional ideas are ready to emerge?" Reflecting on this, I’ve been exploring how Aquarius themes of originality and progress resonate with my own creative journey. As you revisit this prompt, consider these guiding questions:
What unique perspective or idea have you been holding back?
How can you show up more authentically in your creative practice?
What does "progress" mean to you right now, and how can you embrace it?
I’d love to see what you create—don’t forget to tag me or use #CyclesOfCraft to share your work!

Artist of the Season: Alice Neel’s Visionary Portraits and Legacy
This season, I’m drawing inspiration from Alice Neel, a brilliant 20th-century American painter known for her striking portraits and commitment to portraying real life. Neel was an Aquarian herself, and her life and work reflected the humanitarian and innovative spirit of this sign.
Neel was a fearless champion of social justice, a Leftist, and a staunch supporter of Trade Unions. Her commitment to equality and human rights was evident not only in her art but also in her activism. At a time when women were not afforded the rights we have now, Neel boldly created work that celebrated individuality and diversity while challenging societal norms.
Her portraits often focused on women, marginalised communities, and her own experiences, capturing the raw and honest essence of her subjects. Two of her iconic works are:
Andy Warhol (1970): A raw, vulnerable portrait of Warhol, capturing him shirtless with scars from a past assassination attempt.
The Family (1970): A powerful piece that captures the dynamics of a family unit, emphasizing connection and individuality.
Neel’s fearless approach to art and life is a constant source of inspiration as I develop my own projects. If you want to discover more about this courageous women, start here.
Astrology Insight: Embracing the Aquarius New Moon’s Innovative Energy
The Aquarius New Moon is all about innovation, vision, and breaking free from the old to create the new. This is a time to think outside the box, embrace collaboration, and focus on how we can contribute to collective growth.
The world feels especially chaotic and unsettled right now, and that could be a reflection of recent celestial activity. The recent Planetary Parade and the appearance of a comet have stirred up energies, bringing transformative yet turbulent vibrations to the forefront. These cosmic events often manifest as upheaval here on Earth, urging us to reevaluate, adapt, and evolve.
Aquarius, ruled by Uranus, is a sign of forward-thinking and collective progress. This New Moon invites us to consider how we can innovate in our lives and contribute to a better future. It’s a time to set intentions not just for personal growth but also for how we can impact our communities and the world at large. Embrace your uniqueness, and don’t be afraid to share your unconventional ideas, they might just spark the change we all need.

Artistic Growth and New Cycles: Nurturing Your Creative Path Under the Cancer Full Moon
January has always been a time for reflection and planning, a chance to set intentions for the year ahead. This year, I’ve been aligning my goals with the natural cycles of the moon, using its energy to guide me through releasing what no longer serves and manifesting dreams with clarity. While the summer heatwaves have slowed down my pace, I've learned to adapt, taking things one step at a time and finding ways to keep moving forward.
Life Update:
January has always been a time for reflection and planning, a chance to set intentions for the year ahead. I like to align my goals with the natural cycles of the moon, using its energy to guide me through releasing what no longer serves and manifesting dreams with clarity. While the summer heatwaves have slowed down my pace, I've learned to adapt, taking things one step at a time and finding ways to keep moving forward.
My rehab sessions have resumed at the hospital, adding structure to my week, these sessions are incredibly exhausting. Soon I will be undergoing a medical procedure that will take me away from the studio for a few days. Despite these interruptions, I continue to build my vision wall for 2025, mapping out my goals and dreams for the upcoming year, creating a roadmap for where I want my practice to go. I promise I will share some photos soon.
For Christmas, my family surprised me with an iPad Pro and pen, and I’ve been diving into learning Procreate. It’s been a game-changer, and I’m excited to see how it will transform my creative process in the future.
Studio Update:
The studio has been a dynamic mix of finalizing projects, continuing long-term works, and diving into new experiments. One of the ongoing projects is my body of work, which explores themes of visibility and invisibility. This project will serve as the foundation for my first grant application. I'm immersing myself in research and gathering the necessary resources for the application process. This marks an exciting step in expanding my artistic practice, and I’ll be sure to share updates as it unfolds.
At the same time, I’ve begun experimenting with ideas for the upcoming Creativa exhibition with Collective 24. This piece will not be a body of work, but rather a single mixed-media piece. My focus has shifted toward exploring texture and layers as a central element of this work. I’ve always loved incorporating texture into my pieces, but this time I’m working with a variety of mediums to create rich layers. The piece will feature fabric and fabric hardener as the base layer, which I’ve used in previous sculptural works, but never on canvas. I’m also combining crackle paste and texture paste for the first time, which I’m eager to see how they interact on the surface.
The heatwaves have been unexpectedly beneficial for my creative process, allowing me to use the intense heat to speed up drying times between layers. This has allowed me to build up textures faster and see how the layers evolve in real time. It's been a refreshing shift from concept-driven work to focusing purely on the process, enjoying the tactile nature of texture without worrying about the final product. It’s been a fun and rewarding experiment, and I look forward to continuing this journey.
The Creativa exhibition with Collective 24 will take place at Cyrus’s Art Lounge in Carlton. It’s an exciting opportunity, and I’ll be sure to share more details as the event draws nearer. While this piece will not be part of a larger body of work, it’s a step toward my ongoing exploration of visibility, a theme that continues to evolve within my practice.
Experiments in textures and layers.
Exploring Visibility and Invisibility
The concept of visibility and invisibility has been a core focus of my work for some time now. This theme has allowed me to examine the complex layers of identity, societal expectations, and personal experiences. My previous works, such as Kintsugi of the Soul, addressed themes of family violence and the way in which words can leave their mark on our bodies and souls, even without physical violence. The work highlighted the fragile yet resilient nature of healing, mirroring the ancient Japanese art of Kintsugi, where broken pottery is repaired with gold, emphasizing beauty in imperfection.
More recently, I explored the concept of aging and invisibility in my piece The Unseen Woman. This work reflects my personal exploration of how women often become invisible as they age, ignored or dismissed by society. The Unseen Woman challenged the notion of aging as something to be hidden or ashamed of, instead celebrating the depth, wisdom, and strength that comes with the passage of time.
These themes are at the forefront of my upcoming body of work. As I prepare for my grant application, I aim to develop a solo exhibition that dives even deeper into these concepts. The grant will be instrumental in providing the necessary resources to facilitate this next stage in my practice, including the possibility of securing my own studio space. Having my own space will allow me to fully immerse myself in the creative process and explore these themes at greater length. It will also provide the freedom to expand my artistic expression beyond what I’ve previously been able to achieve, offering a dedicated environment where I can truly experiment.
I’m excited to see where this next phase of my work takes me, as it aligns with my desire to tell stories that are often overlooked or silenced. Visibility is not just about being seen—it’s about being heard, understood, and acknowledged. Through my work, I hope to give voice to those who have been marginalised, creating space for their stories to be told.
The Grant Process and My Studio Vision
As I embark on the grant application process, I am excited about the possibilities that this opportunity holds. Securing funding will be crucial in helping me realise my vision for a body of work that is deeply rooted in personal and societal themes of visibility, healing, and transformation. The grant will not only provide financial support but also the space to expand my practice in ways I haven’t been able to before.
Having my own studio would be a game-changer. It would give me the time and space to focus deeply on the themes that drive my work, without the distractions of external limitations. I envision a space where I can experiment with different materials and techniques, pushing the boundaries of my artistic expression. I look forward to the possibility of creating a cohesive body of work that explores the intersection of personal identity, gender, and societal norms, culminating in a solo exhibition that reflects my growth and evolution as an artist.

Artist of the Season: Diane Arbus
This full moon’s featured artist is Diane Arbus, whose work has long been an inspiration in my own artistic journey. Born on January 14th, Arbus was known for her striking black-and-white photography, which captured raw, intimate moments of individuals on the fringes of society. Her subjects included circus performers, people with disabilities, and those living on the edges of mainstream culture.
Arbus’s work challenges our perceptions of normalcy and beauty, offering an honest and often vulnerable portrayal of those who are frequently overlooked. Like Arbus, I am deeply interested in uncovering the hidden stories of those whose voices are often silenced or ignored. Through her lens, Arbus invited viewers to confront their biases and assumptions, urging them to look beyond surface appearances and embrace the complexity of human experience. Her legacy has been a constant reminder to me of the importance of bringing marginalised narratives to light, which aligns with my current exploration of visibility in my own work. Find out more about Diane here.
Astrology Update: Full Moon in Cancer & The Planetary Parade
As we approach the Full Moon in Cancer on January 14th, we are invited to explore themes of nurturing, emotional release, and balance between our personal and professional lives. This full moon brings with it an opportunity to reflect on what we need to release in order to create space for what truly nourishes us.

My view for the next few days.
Life Update: Reflecting on the Past Year and Recharging for the New Moon in Capricorn
This past week has been exactly what I needed. After a year of rehab and endless medical appointments, I was completely worn out. So, a few days with family celebrating Christmas, crafting gnome-themed cards, and just soaking in the festive energy was such a joy. Now, I’ve relocated to house-sit for my daughter in a more rural setting, surrounded by nature and a breathtaking mountain view. It’s the perfect environment for rest, recharging, and reflection. The slower pace has allowed me to reconnect with my creativity in small, delightful ways.
This in-between time, the liminal space between Christmas and the New Year, feels particularly special. It’s a time of pause, reflection, and setting intentions before stepping into a new chapter. I’ve been leaning into this space, journaling and dreaming about what’s next, with my oracle cards helping to guide me. There’s something magical about the stillness of the dark moon and the opportunity it offers to set intentions for the year ahead.
Studio Update: Creative Breaks and the Power of Collage for Storytelling
Even though I’ve taken a break from physically being in the studio, my creative energy hasn’t slowed down. I’m about to dive into the Collage Joy workshop with Catherine Rains, a 10-day challenge that promises to be so much fun! Collage is such a wonderful medium for storytelling, and I’m excited to see what emerges. It feels like the perfect way to ease back into making art while also exploring new ideas.
One of my favourite end-of-year rituals is working on my vision wall. For the last couple of years, I’ve been creating boards for different areas of my life, home, relationships, travel, spirituality, and creative goals. I don’t try to cram everything into one board but prefer diving deeper into each area. It’s a grounding and inspiring process, and I look forward to sharing more about it as I go. I love using Canva to brainstorm and gather images, then print them out to create physical boards. The process helps me focus on specific goals and dreams for the coming year.
Artist of the Season: Exploring the Work of Kara Walker and Her Capricorn Energy
Born on December 26, 1969, Kara Walker is an artist whose work continually challenges, provokes, and inspires. As a Capricorn, her practice reflects the sign’s ambitious, determined, and deeply reflective nature. Walker is best known for her striking black paper silhouettes, which explore themes of race, gender, identity, and history, especially the lasting legacy of slavery in the United States.
Her work confronts uncomfortable truths, using stark black-and-white imagery to symbolise the binaries of race and power. These bold, thought-provoking pieces invite viewers to engage with the complexities of history and identity. Find out more about Kara here.
Collage as a Tool for Storytelling
Walker’s collage work, though less well-known than her silhouettes, is a masterclass in layering and storytelling. She uses found materials and fragmented imagery to create pieces that feel chaotic yet deliberate. Through these works, she captures the intricate, messy realities of identity and history. One example is her 2017 exhibition The Katastwóf Karavan, where she combined graphic images with text to address themes of disaster, resilience, and cultural memory.
As I prepare to start the Collage Joy workshop, Walker’s work feels especially inspiring. Her ability to layer meaning and imagery into cohesive, evocative pieces reminds me of the power of collage to tell stories that resonate deeply. It’s a practice I’m excited to lean into more in the coming weeks.
Notable Works by Kara Walker
Gone: An Historical Romance of a Civil War as it Occurred Between the Dusky Thighs of One Young Negress and Her Heart (1994): This iconic silhouette piece challenges romanticized narratives of the antebellum South.
A Subtlety, or the Marvelous Sugar Baby (2014): A monumental installation addressing themes of labor, exploitation, and capitalism.
The Katastwóf Karavan (2017): A steam-powered calliope installation paired with graphic imagery about historical resilience and atrocities.
Capricorn New Moon Astrology: Setting Intentions for Growth and Reflection
This New Moon in Capricorn, marking the final New Moon of 2024, presents a powerful moment for reflection and intention-setting. Capricorn’s grounding and structured energy encourages us to dream big while creating realistic plans to achieve our goals. With the new solar year beginning, this dark moon is the perfect opportunity to pause, honour the past, and step forward with purpose.
Capricorn’s energy also aligns beautifully with the work I’ve been doing with #CyclesOfCraft, reminding me to embrace patience and steady progress. It’s not about rushing to the finish line but honouring the journey and the steps it takes to get there.
#CyclesOfCraft: Embracing the Next Phase of Creativity and Growth
As the Wheel of the Year turns and the first New Moon of 2025 rises in Capricorn, we find ourselves entering the next phase of our creative journey. From Beltane to the Summer Solstice, we’ve been in a season of growth, celebration, and abundance. Now, we turn our focus toward Lammas, the first harvest, a time to reflect on the seeds we’ve planted and nurture the fruits of our labour.
#CyclesOfCraft is about more than the act of creating; it’s a mindful practice of aligning our creativity with the natural rhythms of the earth and sky. Each phase of the year, like each phase of the moon, carries its own unique energy and guidance.
From the fiery energy of Beltane to the fullness of the Summer Solstice, this past season has been one of flourishing ideas and abundant inspiration. Now, as the days subtly begin to shorten, we look toward Lammas—a celebration of the first harvest and a reminder to both honour what we’ve achieved and prepare for what’s to come.
The Moon as Our Guide
The phases of the moon echo this journey, providing a framework for reflection and creation:
New Moon: Begin new projects, set intentions, and embrace fresh starts.
First Quarter: Build on those intentions with action and determination.
Full Moon: Reflect on what’s working, release what isn’t, and celebrate progress.
Last Quarter: Finalize projects, wrap up loose ends, and carry forward what remains unfinished.
Dark Moon: Pause to honour the cycle, rest, and prepare for the next beginning.
This New Moon in Capricorn invites us to step into the year with grounded intentions, taking practical steps toward our goals while honouring the patience and resilience required for lasting growth.
A Cosmic Connection: Harnessing the Energy of the Capricorn New Moon
Adding to the energy of this season, a rare planetary alignment will grace the night sky on January 25. Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn will align, creating a powerful synergy that can inspire reflection and transformation.
Each planet brings its own influence:
Mercury: Clarity and connection in communication.
Venus: Deepening love, beauty, and creativity.
Mars: Motivation and the courage to take bold steps.
Jupiter: Expansion and the embrace of new opportunities.
Saturn: Discipline and thoughtful planning for the future.
This alignment mirrors the themes of #CyclesOfCraft—reflection, growth, and the pursuit of balance. It’s a reminder that even as we create, we are always in dialogue with the greater rhythms of the cosmos.
The Next Phase: Setting Goals and Intentions for the New Year
As we move toward Lammas, this phase invites us to consider what we are cultivating in our lives. What are we ready to harvest? What still needs tending?
Our Art Journal prompt for this season echoes these questions: "As we step into the new year, what do you want to bring with you? Not just your goals, but the quiet dreams, the creative sparks, or the quiet resilience you’ve been building. Capricorn’s energy asks us to be patient and steady, what would it feel like to approach your desires with reverence for the journey ahead, rather than rushing to the end result?"
Through this reflective practice, we honour not only what we’re creating but how we are transforming through the process.
Exhibition Update: Continuing the Theme of Invisibility in My Upcoming Creativa – presented by Collective 24
I’m excited to be part of a group exhibition with my fellow students from LCAD, titled Creativa and presented by Collective 24. For my piece, I’ve been brainstorming and playing with the concept of the visible and invisible, continuing the theme explored in The Unseen Woman. This time, I’m focusing on disability—both visible and invisible—and challenging the assumptions made about those living with a disability. Using mirrors and distortion, my piece invites viewers to reflect on how we perceive others and the often-overlooked realities of their experiences.
Looking Ahead: Creative Goals and Projects for the New Year
As we step into the new year, I’m looking forward to:
Diving into the Collage Joy workshop and exploring new techniques.
Expanding the #CyclesOfCraft practice with more creative prompts and rituals.
Bringing my vision wall to life and setting intentions for 2025.
Developing my concept for the Creativa exhibition.
Redbubble Update
In terms of my Redbubble shop, I wanted to share that my exhibition pieces, The Unseen Woman and Kintsugi of the Soul, will not be available for merch. These works are deeply personal and touch on themes that cannot be easily distilled into products for mass consumption. However, you can still find my Crow collection on the shop, and I’m excited to add new designs in 2025. Stay tuned for more! Check out the shop here.
Summer Studio Tunes Playlist
As we move into the new year, I’ve been curating a special playlist for those creative moments when you need something to inspire your studio time. Check out my Summer Studio Tunes playlist on Spotify. It’s filled with tracks that keep the creative energy flowing and the mood light as we dream forward into 2025. You can listen along while you’re working on your own projects!
This Capricorn New Moon feels like the perfect time to honour where I’ve been and dream about what’s to come. Here’s to a new cycle filled with creativity, resilience, and growth.
Summer Solstice Special Edition: Celebrating the Light of Litha
Celebrate the Summer Solstice with this special edition blog post, exploring the abundance and joy of Litha. Discover seasonal foods, rituals, and creative ways to honor the longest day of the year. Join me in embracing the light and growth of this vibrant season as we reflect on the #CyclesOfCraft journey.
A soft and dreamy watercolor painting capturing the essence of the Australian Summer Solstice. The golden sun radiates warmth over a serene landscape of native wildflowers, including eucalyptus, kangaroo paw, and bottlebrush. In the foreground, a simple altar adorned with small candles rests gently among the flowers, symbolizing Litha and the celebration of light. The delicate brushstrokes and warm tones of green, yellow, and red reflect the cycles of nature and the gentle magic of the season.
As we come to the close of this #CyclesOfCraft chapter, it feels like the perfect moment to pause, reflect, and celebrate everything we’ve created and embraced since Beltaine. The journey from the fertile fires of Beltaine to the full bloom of the Summer Solstice has been one of growth, illumination, and transformation. Now, at the peak of the sun's power, we step into Litha, the Summer Solstice, a time to honour the light, bask in the season’s abundance, and set intentions for the next cycle.
The #CyclesOfCraft Journey
During the #CyclesOfCraft, we have learnt how to work with the lunar phases in our creative practice: the New Moon, First Quarter, Full Moon, Last Quarter, and Dark Moon. When to begin projects, when to look at wrapping them up, even when to pause at the Dark Moon before starting again. Following these cycles and working with the changing seasons has allowed us to tap into natural rhythms and let them influence our creative process. The colours of each season have provided inspiration, while the summer heat has shaped how we work, sometimes making mediums like acrylic paint or air-dry clay unworkable. I’ve used this time to explore and learn watercolours, embracing their lightness and flow during these warmer months.
This cover image for the #CyclesOfCraft campaign visually encapsulates the journey of creating art in harmony with the natural world. Featuring the lunar phases and seasonal motifs, it embodies the essence of 'Crafting the Seasons: An Artistic Journey Through Nature's Cycles.' This visual representation reflects the interconnectedness of art, the lunar rhythm, and the ever-changing seasons that guide the creative process.
What is the Summer Solstice?
The Summer Solstice, or Litha, marks the longest day and shortest night of the year. It is a celebration of the sun’s full strength and the abundance it brings to the earth. Traditionally, it is a time of joy, community, and gratitude, as we honour the gifts of the light while acknowledging that, from here, the days will begin to shorten as the Wheel of the Year continues to turn.
For those of us in the Southern Hemisphere, celebrating the Summer Solstice carries its own unique energy. While much of the world aligns this day with June, we experience the full vibrancy of Litha in December. Our celebration falls in the height of summer’s warmth, buzzing with life and the energy of the holiday season. It is a perfect opportunity to reconnect with the rhythms of nature here in Australia, where the sun graces us with its golden power.
Colours, Symbols & Themes of Litha
Litha is all about embracing the radiance of the sun and celebrating abundance, life, and creativity. Its themes include:
Joy and celebration
Fertility and abundance

With a small white goddess statue at its center, the altar is surrounded by candles, sunflowers, and crystals like citrine and carnelian. Seasonal herbs such as rosemary and mint, along with native Australian flowers like eucalyptus and kangaroo paw, enhance the altar’s connection to nature. The warm, golden tones and symbols of abundance, growth, and fertility invite the sun’s radiance and celebrate the peak of summer’s power.

Create a Shared Altar: Invite everyone to bring something symbolic of the season—flowers, candles, fruits, or personal intentions.
Light a Bonfire or Candles: A nod to ancient Solstice traditions, fire represents the sun’s power. Gather around for storytelling, singing, or intention-setting.
A Ritual to Honour the Summer Solstice
This ritual is a beautiful way to mark the Solstice, reflect on your growth, and set intentions for the season ahead. You can do it alone or invite others to join you.
Preparation
Prepare your altar space with symbols of the Solstice: flowers, candles, sun imagery, fresh fruit, seasonal herbs, and native Australian flowers like eucalyptus or kangaroo paw.
Play music that reflects the theme of joy and sunlight. I’ll be sharing a special Spotify playlist to set the tone.
Welcome the Day
Rise early to watch the sunrise, symbolising the light flooding into your life.
Take a cleansing shower, bath, or swim. If possible, use herbs like rosemary, lavender, or mint in the water to refresh and renew.
Dress in Litha colours: gold, orange, red, or green.
A beautiful sunrise over the Melbourne city skyline, capturing the soft golden glow of an Australian summer morning. The sun rises over the iconic buildings, casting long shadows, creating a tranquil yet vibrant scene that symbolizes the beginning of a new day in this bustling city.
Reflection & Intention-Setting
Let the sunlight into your space by opening windows or stepping outside. Feel the balance of light and dark restoring your energy and spirit.
Draw 3 cards from a tarot or oracle deck to reflect on:
What light do I need to embrace?
What is ready to grow in my life?
What can I release to create balance?
Journal your reflections using this prompt: What light am I ready to embrace in this new season? What intentions or affirmations will guide me as I move forward? Allow yourself to get creative—sketch, paint, or collage your insights.
This 3-card tarot reading is part of a Summer Solstice ritual, where each card represents a different aspect of reflection and intention-setting for the season ahead. Set in a sunlight-filled room, the peaceful ambiance and mystical energy of the cards guide the process of connecting with the light and energy of Litha.
Celebrate & Give Thanks
Prepare a meal or snacks using fresh, seasonal produce that honours the Australian summer. Some ideas include:
Vibrant summer salads with mango, avocado, and native herbs
Fruit platters featuring watermelon, berries, and stone fruits
Herbal iced teas with mint, lemon myrtle, or chamomile
Honey drizzled on fresh bread or scones with native jam
As you enjoy your meal, take a moment to give thanks for the light, the earth’s abundance, and all you have cultivated this season.
Summer Solstice celebration dinner features a spread of fresh, seasonal foods including a vibrant mango and avocado salad, a fruit platter of watermelon, berries, and stone fruits, and refreshing herbal iced teas. Set outdoors in the warmth of golden sunlight, the table reflects the abundance, joy, and connection with nature that the Summer Solstice brings.
The Joy of Living
At the heart of the Solstice is a celebration of life itself—a day to pause, soak in the sun’s warmth, and feel joy radiating within and around us. As the French say, Joie de Vivre (the joy of living) reminds us to embrace this light while it is at its fullest.
The intentions and affirmations you set now can be seeds for what’s to come as we move towards the next New Moon. Think of this as the beginning of your vision board, which we’ll create together when the new year begins.
Wishing you all a joyful and radiant Summer Solstice! May it fill your heart with light and set you on a path of growth and abundance.
Keep an eye out for what’s coming next in the #CyclesOfCraft journey. A new cycle is always just around the corner.

Crafting the Seasons: Release, Reflect, and Create
As the last Full Moon of the year shines in Gemini, it’s the perfect time to reflect, release what no longer serves us, and prepare for a fresh start in 2025. Join me in embracing this Full Moon’s transformative energy, with a creative art journal prompt to help guide your reflections and releases.
A glimpse into my creative process: my desk featuring a watercolour palette, sketchbook, and small paintings.
As we reach the last Full Moon of the year, it's time to reflect on what we want to release before stepping into the new year. The Gemini Full Moon invites us to let go of any mental clutter or outdated beliefs that might be holding us back. It's also the perfect time to release what no longer serves us as we prepare for the seasonal shift to Litha, the Summer Solstice. In this post, we will reflect on personal growth, creative practice, and the importance of releasing, while also celebrating the launch of my new Redbubble shop, where you can now find my Crow series and two exciting new Christmas-themed collections. Read on for some reflections, creative inspiration, and an art journal prompt to guide you through this powerful time.
Life and Studio Update:
Since the new moon, my days have been a balance of rehab, medical appointments, and spending time with loved ones. I’m recovering from a procedure that I hope will alleviate some of my pain and allow me to get more out of my rehab program. It’s a slow process, but I am focusing on healing and finding new ways to engage with my art.
Amid the busy days, I made sure to carve out time for family. I spent a beautiful day with them, enjoying a lovely lunch out and watching my grandkids decorate the Christmas tree. It was a beautiful moment that reminded me of the importance of traditions and how they carry on from one generation to the next.
A special family moment: Pa helps the grandkids place the star on top of the Christmas tree, continuing a holiday tradition.
I also had the chance to attend the RMIT Advance Diploma Graduate Exhibition with a friend. The creativity on display was truly inspiring and sparked some new ideas for my own practice. I’ll share some photos of my favourite pieces below for you to check out.
In exciting art news, I caught up with my art school friends recently, and we decided to work on a group exhibition for May next year. We’re calling it Creativa – Presented by Collective 24, and I’ll keep you all updated with details as we get closer to the event. It’s so exciting to be collaborating with this talented group of artists!
I also attended the graduation of my classmates at LCAD, which was bittersweet. I had to defer my studies this year, but it was wonderful to celebrate everyone's hard work and accomplishments. Unfortunately, I’m facing some challenges with the building's accessibility and the administrations reluctance to assist with complying with the regulations, which might mean I’ll need to transfer to continue my studies. It's disappointing, but at this point, I’m choosing not to expend my energy on the battle.
This cycle in #MakeCreateExpress24 I really enjoyed Pam Thorburn’s lesson - Butterfly Garden. It was a fun, colourful exploration of negative space painting. You can still join if you’re interested at Art is Magic Online. I also took part in an online watercolour workshop with Olga Koelsch, focusing on transparent flowers, which has been a technique I’ve been practicing the last few weeks.
Don’t forget you can listen in on this month’s Studio Playlist.
Artist of the Season - Helen Frankenthaler:
This month, I’d like to celebrate Helen Frankenthaler, born December 12, 1928, a pioneering artist known for her contributions to Abstract Expressionism and the development of Colour Field Painting. Frankenthaler’s unique approach to colour and form has been an inspiration in both my own work and the larger art world. She famously used a technique called soak-stain, where she poured thinned paint directly onto unprimed canvas, creating fluid, vibrant compositions. A technique similar to Acrylic Pouring, which I explored extensively a few years ago. Frankenthaler’s fearless exploration of abstraction and her innovative use of colour have left an indelible mark on contemporary art. You can find out more about Helen here.
Gemini Full Moon: What Are You Releasing?
This Gemini Full Moon is the last of the year, and it’s a perfect time to release what no longer serves you. Gemini is ruled by Mercury, the planet of communication and mental clarity, making it a powerful time to reflect on the thoughts, beliefs, or habits you’re ready to let go of. As we approach the end of 2024, take a moment to consider what you want to leave behind, both personally and creatively.
Art Journal Prompt:
Take some time to reflect on what you need to release. Use your art journal to express this release visually. Perhaps you can paint over or tear out pages that no longer align with your current intentions. Feel free to experiment with layers, colours, or textures to represent the act of shedding the old. What mental clutter or creative blockages are you ready to clear? Write it down and make room for new growth.
This image was created using AI to visually capture the essence of the Gemini full moon and the energy of the peak of the Australian summer. It's an artistic representation of the themes of release and reflection that I'm exploring in this post.
Litha – The Summer Solstice:
On December 21, we will celebrate Litha, the Summer Solstice in the Southern Hemisphere. This is a time of abundance and growth, symbolising the peak of the sun’s energy before it begins to wane. Litha is a celebration of light, vitality, and transformation. Traditionally, it is a time to honour the sun and its life-giving force, and to reflect on the seeds we have planted throughout the year. As the Wheel of the Year turns toward Litha, it’s an opportunity to celebrate the successes and growth we’ve achieved.
You can celebrate Litha by spending time outdoors, lighting candles, or creating art that connects with the energy of the sun. It’s a time to honour the light within yourself and the abundance in your life.
#CyclesOfCraft Update:
As we come to the end of this lunar cycle and head into 2025, I’m reflecting on the journey of #CyclesOfCraft. This project has been such a meaningful part of my creative practice, and I’m excited to continue exploring the upcoming seasonal cycles as we move toward Lammas in the new year. I’ll be sharing more about this in the next blog post, so stay tuned for updates!

Wrapping Up:
As we approach the end of the year, it’s a powerful time for reflection, release, and renewal. I hope this post has inspired you to embrace the energy of the Gemini Full Moon and the Litha celebration, and to take some time for personal release before stepping into 2025.
Please share your releases with me on social media using #CyclesOfCraft and #ReleaseWithMe. Let’s support each other in letting go of what no longer serves us and creating space for new beginnings.
Sagittarius New Moon: Fresh Starts and Big Dreams
This New Moon, landing on December 1st, is in the expansive sign of Sagittarius. As the second last New Moon of the year, it’s a perfect time to reflect on how far we’ve come and dream big for what’s next. Sagittarius energy invites us to explore, take risks, and aim high, reminding us to trust in the journey even when the destination is unclear.
For me, this New Moon feels like a moment to set intentions around personal growth and creative exploration. What are the big dreams you’ve been holding back on? Now’s the time to plant those seeds and let them take root as we move toward the new year.

Studio Update
This cycle in Make, Create, Express, I’ve been working through Vanessa Oliver-Lloyd’s incredible workshops on the Soul Path Archetype. I discovered that my Soul Path Tarot Card is the Emperor, which represents structure, stability, and leadership. In balance, the Emperor is a grounded protector and builder. In its shadow, it can manifest as rigidity or an overemphasis on control. Exploring these aspects through Vanessa’s lessons has been a fascinating deep dive into light and shadow, both in art and life.
In the studio, I’ve been playing with watercolours, especially during the recent heatwave here in Melbourne. Acrylics have been tricky to work with in this weather, but watercolours have provided a meditative and rewarding alternative.
Collage Lab’s Treasure Trovember: November has also been a whirlwind of creativity thanks to Collage Lab's daily collage prompts. Each day introduced a new element to add to a collage, and I loved the challenge of weaving these elements into a cohesive piece. Check out the reel on my socials where I assemble the final collage—it’s been so much fun!
One of the biggest shifts in my practice recently has been with a large painting I’ve been working on for months. After sitting with her for a while, I decided to gesso over the background, giving myself permission to start fresh. It’s a reminder that art is ever evolving, and we’re allowed to change direction, even mid-project. I will now see what her story will become.
This month’s Studio Tunes playlist is all about keeping it calm and steady. It’s a mix of gentle indie, soft pop, and chill vibes. Perfect for slowing down and finding your flow in the studio.
The Business of Art: Launching My Redbubble Shop
I’ve taken a big step into the world of online art sales with the launch of my Redbubble shop! Currently, you’ll find The Crow Series, featuring my original artwork, available on a range of products. This has been a huge learning curve for me—navigating the business side of art and venturing into e-commerce—but it’s also an exciting adventure.
I’m working on a Christmas collection, which I have started releasing. The shop is a work in progress, and I’ll be adding more collections as I go. It feels like stepping into a whole new phase of my creative journey, and I can’t wait to see where it leads.
#CyclesOfCraft: Embracing Moon Phases and Seasonal Shifts
In case you haven’t caught it on socials, my #CyclesOfCraft campaign has been exploring how the moon phases and seasonal changes influence my creative practice. The moon’s cycles provide a natural rhythm that aligns with how I approach art:
New Moon: A time for fresh starts and setting intentions.
Waxing Moon: Building momentum and taking action on those goals.
Full Moon: A period of culmination, celebration, and release.
Waning Moon: A chance to slow down, reflect, and prepare for the next cycle.
The recent heatwave has also reminded me how much the seasons shape my practice. The intense heat and humidity have zapped my energy, triggering fatigue and pain, but they’ve also pushed me toward more adaptable and slower art forms like collage and watercolours. This season is teaching me to flow with these cycles instead of resisting them.
Artist of the Season: Marina Abramović
Born November 30, 1946, Marina Abramović is a legendary figure in performance art, fearlessly exploring the extremes of the human condition. Over her five-decade career, she has delved into themes of love, war, ritual, and spirituality, redefining the relationship between artist and audience.
One of her most haunting and courageous performances, Rhythm 0 (1974), lasted six hours and involved Abramović standing passively in a gallery while the audience was invited to interact with her using 72 objects placed on a table. These objects ranged from innocuous items like a feather, a rose, and honey to more sinister ones such as scissors, a scalpel, and a loaded gun. The instructions were simple: the audience could use the objects on her however they pleased, with Abramović relinquishing all control over her body.
Initially, the interactions were harmless and playful. But as the hours passed, the performance revealed a disturbing side of humanity. Encouraged by her passivity, some participants—primarily men—escalated their actions, cutting her clothes, writing on her body, and even holding the loaded gun to her head. Abramović described the experience as showing how quickly people could be dehumanized and dehumanize others when given unchecked power. By the end, she was bleeding, bruised, and emotionally drained, but her unwavering commitment to the performance held a mirror to the darkest impulses of society. Tragically, the themes of this performance remain painfully relevant, as women worldwide continue to face objectification and violence.
Rhythm 0 was part of a broader series exploring the physical and psychological limits of the human body. In Rhythm 5 (1974), Abramović created a star-shaped fire on the floor, laying within its flames until she lost consciousness due to oxygen deprivation. This near-death experience led her to realize that the purpose of her art was to push the boundaries of her body and mind.
In her later career, Abramović has continued to innovate, moving beyond the limits of her own endurance to guide others. The Serpentine Performance led her to develop the Abramović Method, a practice designed to help audiences enter the focused, meditative state required to fully engage with performance art. This method bridges the gap between artist and viewer, inviting participants into a space of shared vulnerability and transformation.
Marina Abramović’s work is a testament to bravery and resilience, consistently challenging societal norms and forcing us to confront uncomfortable truths. Her performances remain as powerful and thought-provoking today as when they were first conceived, solidifying her legacy as a pioneer in contemporary art. You can find out more about Marina here.

Looking Ahead
I’m so excited about the launch of my new Redbubble shop —keep an eye on the socials for updates!
This month, I’m also looking forward to attending the RMIT Advanced Diploma Graduate Show and celebrating the successes of my LCAD classmates at their Graduate Show. Even though I’ve deferred my studies due to my disability, I’m thrilled to see their hard work come to life.
Finally, don’t forget that my work, The Unseen Woman, is still on display at the Merri Bek Summer Show at the Counihan Gallery until December 14th. There is still time to vote in the People’s Choice Awards too, I would be really grateful if you could take a few minutes to vote for piece. You can use this link to vote.
Here’s to embracing the adventurous, expansive energy of Sagittarius as we close out the year.
Taurus Full Moon Reflections & Studio Updates
As we move through the Full Moon in Taurus, I find myself drawn to this sign's themes of stability, beauty, and valuing the small, steady progress in both life and art. Taurus invites us to take pleasure in our senses and find strength in grounding practices. Qualities that resonate deeply in my creative process and, especially, with Unseen Woman, my piece now on view at the Counihan Gallery until December 14.
As we move through the Super Full Moon in Taurus, I find myself drawn to this sign's themes of stability, beauty, and valuing the small, steady progress in both life and art. Taurus invites us to take pleasure in our senses and find strength in grounding practices. Qualities that resonate deeply in my creative process and, especially, with Unseen Woman, my piece now on view at the Counihan Gallery until December 14.
The Story of Unseen Woman
Creating Unseen Woman has been an incredibly personal journey. I started her before my long hospital stay, but her meaning has shifted and deepened with my own experiences. Now, as a woman in my early 50s navigating life in a wheelchair, her story feels even more relevant.
This piece portrays a sheer, ghostly figure of a woman, capturing the growing invisibility many women experience as they age. Within the theme of (Be)Longing, the work reflects on the tension between the desire to belong and the reality of being overlooked. The translucent, ethereal form embodies the quiet struggle of women longing to be seen in a society that too often looks past them.
For me, this piece also became a symbol of resilience. Feeling unseen, especially now, has brought new layers of strength to my life and into this work. Through Unseen Woman, I hope to spark a conversation about valuing women at every stage of life—their presence, wisdom, and worth. All women deserve to be seen.
Unseen Woman is on display at the Merri Bek Summer Show until December 14. I’d love to hear your thoughts if you get a chance to visit.
The Exhibition Opening and Reflections on Rest
The opening of the Merri bek Summer Show was an incredible experience. Being part of such a vibrant community of artists and celebrating our creations together felt like a beautiful culmination of hard work. I even had the surreal honour of exhibiting alongside a former teacher, a special moment that underscored how far my journey has come. But as much as I wanted to immerse myself in it all, I had to carve out a few days afterward to rest and recharge. Living with a disability means managing energy carefully, even around joyous events. Taurus reminds me to respect my limits, acknowledging that true strength often comes from knowing when to pause.
Crafting the Seasons: The #CyclesOfCraft Campaign
This Full Moon also marks a key moment in my #CyclesOfCraft campaign, celebrating the rhythm of the earth’s cycles in my art. Aligned with spring and leading up to the summer solstice, #CyclesOfCraft is about honouring the seasonal transitions that shape my work. This journey invites us all to notice how the earth’s rhythms can inspire us, whether in our creative practices or daily lives. From the sensual blooms of spring to the vibrant energy of summer, I’m looking forward to sharing more reflections on how these cycles influence my art. You can follow along on the socials and I’d love to hear if, and how, your creative work aligns with the seasons too.
A Spring-Inspired Studio Update
In the studio, spring continues to inspire my colour palette, especially as I explore watercolours, a medium that brings a soft, fluid feel to my Yoni project. Working with the fresh hues of the season feels rejuvenating and connects beautifully with my exploration of feminine archetypes. For a closer look into my creative process, check out my recent reel on Instagram, where I share a behind-the-scenes view of Unseen Woman’s journey from concept to gallery. This week’s lesson in Make, Create, Express featured fun, fish-inspired doodles, a light-hearted shift in pace that brought out my playful side. If you're curious about Make, Create, Express, remember that Art is Magic Online is offering a two-week free trial of the taster sessions. I highly recommend it for anyone looking to explore new creative avenues.
An Artist Date to Remember
This lunar cycle’s artist date was a lunch with friends from art school, reconnecting before heading to the exhibition opening together. It felt grounding to share that day with familiar faces, friends who have seen my evolution as an artist. Having the opportunity to show my work in the same space as some of my mentors brought a feeling of completion—like a circle closing, marking progress.
Artist of the Season: Georgia O'Keeffe
This season, I'm inspired by Georgia O'Keeffe, one of the most influential artists of the 20th century. Born on November 15, 1887, O'Keeffe was a pioneering American artist known for her iconic, large-scale flower paintings, sweeping desert landscapes, and abstract forms that capture the beauty, sensuality, and strength in nature. Often called the "Mother of American Modernism," she transformed everyday natural subjects—flowers, bones, and mountains—into powerful expressions of colour, form, and emotion.
Her deep connection to nature resonates with the spirit of this Taurus Full Moon, as well as with my ongoing Yoni project. O'Keeffe’s intense focus on the inner essence of her subjects invites viewers to see beyond the surface, tapping into a sensual, almost meditative appreciation of form. Her work captures the kind of grounded, intimate beauty I’m inspired to explore this season as I experiment with soft spring hues and feminine themes. You can find out more about Georgia here.
Looking Ahead
As I lean into Taurean energy, I'll continue my journey with watercolours and the colours of spring, sharing updates as we approach the summer solstice. Join me in following the #CyclesOfCraft campaign on socials, where I’d love to hear your thoughts, ideas, and inspirations. How does your creative practice flow with the seasons or cycles?
Here's to grounding ourselves in beauty, stability, and honouring every bit of progress—one brushstroke at a time.
New Moon in Scorpio: Intentions, Transformations, and the Art of Reconnecting.
New Moon in Scorpio: Intentions, Transformations, and the Art of Recon...
With the eclipse season behind us, the skies are open for setting intentions under this New Moon in Scorpio. A powerful moment for manifesting dreams and embracing transformation. This cycle feels especially personal, as it aligns with my birthday, marking the end of one chapter and the beginning of another. My intentions go beyond this lunar cycle and extend into my next year around the sun, as I consider what I wish to manifest and transform.
The energy of Scorpio urges us into the depths, welcoming shadow work and the power of transformation. My piece for the Merri Bek Summer Show reflects these themes, exploring hidden layers of self and society. This new moon’s energy holds the potential for profound change, encouraging us to dive into what we often leave unseen.
Now that the intensity of eclipse season has passed, I’m setting intentions with renewed clarity. This is the perfect time for new beginnings, releasing old cycles, and moving forward with fresh purpose. Scorpio’s transformative energy resonates deeply as I reflect on my journey and the visions I want to nurture.
In the Southern Hemisphere, we are also celebrating Beltaine, the festival of fire, fertility, and creation. This ancient festival is a celebration of life, marking the halfway point between the Spring Equinox and Summer Solstice. Traditionally, Beltaine was a time to honour growth, passion, and abundance, as well as to revel in the fertility of the earth. The seasonal energy of Beltaine resonates beautifully with Scorpio’s themes, reminding us that through embracing transformation, we ignite the fires of our creativity.
Studio Update
In the studio, things have been full of activity. I dropped my work off this week for the Merri-bek Summer Show, which opens on November 9th from 2-4pm. I’ve also been experimenting with watercolors, a new medium for me, and I’m thrilled to have my new Kuretake GANSAI TAMBI Art Nouveau watercolors ready to play with. Check my Instagram page for my unboxing. I’ve been enjoying the artistic exploration from recent classes in Make Create Express, including a spontaneous watercolor class with Angela Fehr, and Play to Express with Jenny Grant (check out the process video on Instagram!). Art is Magic online has announced some exciting news, they will be making the taster sessions free for two weeks starting November 18th. If you would like to have some fun and see what I have been doing in the yearlong workshop jump over here and have a look. I also enjoyed a mixed media session from Laura Horne over at Lorna Horne Art. This cycle has been brimming with creative exploration and inspiration, especially as I begin to see my Yoni project take shape. I will update you more on this one in a later edition.
Sadly, I won’t be able to attend the Fairy Ball I had looked forward to, the reality of living with a disability often means adjusting plans, even the ones I’m most excited for.
An Artist Date and Reconnection
Recently, I enjoyed an "Artist Date" with friends from art school—our first time reconnecting since I was admitted to the hospital at the end of term 1. We met at a cozy cafe in Carlton, spending a beautiful afternoon outside, catching up and joining in a fun guided activity. Reconnecting with them brought so much joy and reminded me of the creative cycles of friendship, and the importance of friends in our lives.
Artist of the Season: Hilma af Klint
This season, I’m drawing inspiration from Hilma af Klint, a Scorpio herself, who embraced transformation and delved into unseen realms through her art. Her work speaks to a spiritual vision that defied the norms of her time, boldly paving the way in a male-dominated art world. I admire her courage and the fearless way she pursued her craft. af Klint’s devotion to unveiling hidden truths resonates with the energy of Scorpio and the deeper layers I seek to explore in my own work. Find out more about Hilma and her paintings here.
Looking Ahead
As this new moon and birthday bring a new beginning, I feel aligned with the Scorpio spirit of diving into the depths and shedding the old to make way for transformation. This time of year, with Beltaine’s vibrancy and the magic of Halloween still lingering, feels especially potent. A reminder of the cycles of death, rebirth, and creation. As I set my intentions, I’m excited for the transformations to come, both in my art and in the path ahead. Here’s to new beginnings and embracing the mystery of what lies beneath. I would love to hear about your plan’s for embracing this the energies, let me know over on the Socials.

Super Full Moon in Aries: Boldness, Release & Progress
As we reach the full moon in Aries on 17 October, I’m leaning into the themes of boldness, initiative, and celebrating progress. This cycle has been full of breakthroughs and some personal challenges, but I’ve learned that courage shows up in many ways.
The full moon is also a time of release. With the sun in Libra and the moon in Aries, we are called to find balance between harmony and action, between peace and boldness…..
As we reach the Super Full Moon in Aries on 17 October, I’m leaning into the themes of boldness, initiative, and celebrating progress. This cycle has been full of breakthroughs and some personal challenges, but I’ve learned that courage shows up in many ways.
The full moon is also a time of release. With the sun in Libra and the moon in Aries, we are called to find balance between harmony and action, between peace and boldness. Consider what no longer serves you and is holding you back from embracing your true self. For me, I’m releasing the fear of not being “enough” in my work, my health, and my personal life. It’s been weighing me down, and now is the time to let go. What fears or doubts can you release to make room for new growth? Let go of indecision, self-doubt, or the need for approval from others so you can step confidently into your power.
I invite you to join me in this release and share what you're letting go of on social media—tag me so we can support each other through this phase of transformation!
Studio Update
I’m excited to share that the piece I was working on during the last cycle has been accepted into the Merri Bek Summer Show at the Counihan Gallery in Brunswick. The theme of the exhibition is (Be)Longing, and I’m thrilled to be a part of it. The opening is on 9 November at 2 pm, which also happens to be my birthday! I won’t share too much about the work yet—more details to come later.
In the Make, Create, Express course, I’ve been working on a few abstract pieces, and you can check out my process reels over on Instagram. Meanwhile, in my other course, The Art of Individuation, this week’s lecture, "An Opening in the Hedgerow: Women’s Mysticism in the Christian Late Middle Ages," has sparked something deep in me. It’s drawn me back to an idea I’ve been nurturing for a while—exploring the yoni as a hedgerow, both rich in symbolism.
The yoni is a Sanskrit term representing the physical womb, vagina, and vulva, literally being the source of life. It is also a symbol of the divine feminine, associated with creation, birth, and rebirth. The hedgerow, traditionally a physical boundary between fields, also holds spiritual meaning. It is seen as a liminal space—a boundary not just between the physical world but between realms, representing an opening to the other side, to the divine. These ideas are deeply connected for me, and I can feel the beginnings of a new body of work forming. I’ll keep you updated as this unfolds.
Studio sessions are not complete without some tunes. Check out this month’s playlist. What have you been listening to? Jump over to the socials and let me know what you would add.
Living with Disability
This cycle has been tough on my health. Managing pain and the emotional strain has taken its toll, but I’ve been focusing on summoning courage in my art and rehabilitation. On the days when my body struggles, I’ve been quietly working on some website updates and playing with graphic design to create a more cohesive look for my blog and socials. It’s slow progress, but it’s something I can manage when energy is low.
Artist Date
I had a much-needed artist date this week when I visited my hometown, with a dear friend, to see the incredible Kate Miller-Heidke, supported by the beautiful Georgia Mooney. The experience was nostalgic, full of old memories, and even better, I reconnected with an old friend—an unexpected but lovely surprise.
Artist of the Season: Rosaleen Norton
This season’s featured artist is Rosaleen Norton, famously known as the Witch of Kings Cross. Norton, an Australian artist and occultist, challenged societal norms through her visionary art and mystical practices. Her work, heavily influenced by esotericism and paganism, explored the supernatural, often depicting gods, demons, and mythological creatures. As one of the earliest “Art Witches,” Norton fused her spirituality with her artistic expression, carving a path for those who seek to combine magic and art. Her defiance of conventional morality and fearless embrace of the taboo make her an inspiration for this full moon's themes of boldness and release. You should definitely look into her life and artwork; you can start here. There is also a wonderful bio pic you can watch; you can find the details here.
Looking Ahead
As the Southern Hemisphere wheel turns towards Beltaine, I’m looking forward to celebrating at a Fairy Ball. The theme is Gods and Goddesses, and I’ve been putting my creative energy into making a costume. If you’re still celebrating Samhain or Halloween, remember there’s still time to order from my Crow Series and get it before the end of the month! Order you journal here. If you would like to order postcards or the Limited-Edition Framed Prints email me.
Here’s to stepping into the boldness of the full moon, releasing what holds us back, and celebrating our progress, no matter how small.
New Moon, New Beginnings: A Journey Back to Art
As the New Moon rises today, accompanied by a partial solar eclipse, I’m embracing the energy of new beginnings. Libra, the sign of balance, harmony, and relationships, invites us to reflect on where we need find balance in our lives and creative practice. This lunar cycle feels especially powerful, coming just after the Spring Equinox, Ostara, here in the Southern Hemisphere, a time when light and dark are equal, reminding us of the beauty in balance and transition.
Libra New Moon
As the New Moon rises today, accompanied by a partial solar eclipse, I’m embracing the energy of new beginnings. Setting Intentions:
A Fresh Start
I’ve always felt a deep connection to the cycles of nature and the moon. Aligning my creative process with these cycles not only grounds me but also infuses my work with a sense of purpose and flow. Today, I’m setting my intentions for the upcoming months, focusing on creating art that speaks to the themes I’m passionate about—women’s rights, social justice, and the often-overlooked experiences of living with disability.
“My Art is my Craft and My Craft is my Art”—this mantra has been my guiding light. It reminds me that my practice is not just about the finished pieces but about the ongoing journey, the process of creating, reflecting, and growing. This new moon, I’m particularly inspired by the idea of balance—how to find harmony between my art and advocacy, my personal and creative life, and my inner and outer worlds.
Earlier this year, I spent nine weeks in hospital, which kept me away from my art for a significant time. The experience has profoundly impacted my life, as I’m now navigating the world in a wheelchair with limited mobility. Back home, I’ve reorganised my studio and, between physiotherapy and hydrotherapy sessions, I’m finally creating again.
Studio Update:
Exploring Balance and Harmony
In the studio, I’ve been working on my entry for the Merri-bek Summer Show. This year's theme is “(Be)Longing”. I have been thinking a lot about visibility and how it changes over time. Without giving too much away, I’m playing around with some ghostly, layered forms to explore what it feels like to be seen—or not seen—as we get older. It’s still a work in progress, but I’m excited (and a little nervous!) to see how it all comes together.
I’m grateful to have won a spot in the yearlong Make, Create, Express workshop by Art is Magic Online This incredible program, featuring diverse lessons from talented artists worldwide, has been a lifeline, keeping me creatively engaged and inspired. I can’t wait to share my new work with you! I strongly encourage you to check out their workshops.
I'm also taking a short course inspired by Jennifer Higgie's book, The Other Side: A Journey into Women, Art and the Spirit World. I first discovered this book during my time at art school while researching women artists who incorporated spiritual themes in their work. I’m deeply intrigued by how these artists intertwined their creative processes with their beliefs and explored otherworldly dimensions in their art.
Artist of the Season: Libra
Maya Lin and the Art of Reflection
This lunar cycle, I’m inspired by Maya Lin who was born under the sign of Libra, a renowned artist and architect known for integrating art, architecture, and the environment. Her work, such as the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, redefines public spaces and commemorative art. Beyond memorials, Lin’s creations often highlight environmental issues, transforming landscapes into contemplative spaces that raise awareness. Her philosophy, “to make people aware of their surroundings,” resonates with the themes of reflection and connection I’m exploring in my own work this cycle. Learn more about Maya Lin here

Looking Ahead:
Themes of Balance and Justice
Over the next two weeks, leading up to the Full Moon in Aries, I’ll be focusing on the concept of balance—not just in my art, but also in my advocacy work. I want to explore how these two aspects of my life intersect and support each other. How can I create art that not only expresses my personal experiences but also amplifies the voices and stories of others who are often silenced?
Embracing the Eclipse
Eclipses are known for shaking things up, bringing unexpected changes and revelations. This partial solar eclipse in Libra feels like a cosmic invitation to re-evaluate, to let go of what no longer serves, and to make space for new growth. I’m excited—and a little nervous—to see where this energy takes me. But I trust that, by staying connected to my intentions and my craft, I’ll navigate these shifts with grace and purpose.
As we move through this cycle together, I invite you to reflect on your own life. Where do you need more balance? What new beginnings are you ready to welcome? Please let me know on the Socials your reflections. Let’s embrace this Libra New Moon as an opportunity to realign, renew, and create with intention.
Seasonal Celebration:
In the Southern Hemisphere we are approaching Beltaine. However, at this time of the year many of us celebrate Samhain. I know it’s hard not to when everyone else is embracing Halloween. So as Samhain/Halloween approach, it's the perfect time to welcome the Crow into your space. My Crow Journals, featuring original Lino cut artwork, are available now on Amazon. You can also order crow-themed postcards directly via email, and framed, limited-edition prints are available for those seeking a unique piece. Order soon to ensure delivery before the end of the month!
